Brierley Hill

Brierley Hill

Brierley Hill is situated a couple of miles south of Dudley and a couple of miles north of Stourbridge. Brierley Hill was a heavily industrialised area of the Black Country best known for glass and steel manufacturing although these industries have declined since the 1970s.

The town has varied types of property with some large family homes on modern style developments, right down to terraced property closer to the town centre. It is largely one of the more affordable areas in the region and one big draw is the large Merry Hill shopping centre. The centre has just about every type of shop and before the construction of Birmingham city centre’s refurbished Bullring shopping centre some years ago it was probably the premier destination for shopping in the whole of the midlands.

Whythymoor village lies to the south of the town centre of Brierley hill and is a residential development which was mostly built in the 1970s and ’80s. As well as more modest properties, Whythymoor has some fairly large detached properties and there is a large Sainsburys superstore.

Brierley Hill is served by numerous bus services which provide links to Dudley, Halesowen, Stourbridge, Walsall, West Bromwich and Wolverhampton among others.

Passenger services are also planned for the West Midlands Metro to link Brierley Hill to Wednesbury via Dudley. Services are planned to operate in time for 2022 with the intention of creating a link from this part of the Black Country to HS2.
